Discover the mythic beauty, charming architecture, and world-class gastronomy of the Basque Country on this 10-day journey. Immerse in this treasured landscape as you relax in romantic seaside resorts, wind through picturesque red-and-white villages, and explore the contemporary art and gastronomic meccas of Bilbao and San Sebastian.
Nestled between the Pyrenees Mountains and the Atlantic Ocean, the Basque region spans seven provinces across southwest France and northeast Spain. We’ve crafted an itinerary that immerses you in the best sites, food, and music Basque Country has to offer.
Begin your journey at the elegant beach town of Biarritz, renowned as a golfing and surfing destination. Explore history at St-Jean-de-Luz, once home to fierce corsairs (French-crown endorsed pirates of the 17th century), now a charming beach town. Wind your way through colorful, rustic villages—many of which have received the prestigious designation of le plus beaux village de France* These villages are replete with the quintessential basque architecture: white timbered buildings with brightly painted shutters that hug the streets. Here you can sample artisanal Basque gateaux (cake), local chocolate and cheese, and catch a game of pelota—the traditional Basque sport.
No visit to the Basque Country would be complete without a wine tour. We’ve selected the top wineries to visit in one of the most prized winemaking regions in the world: the Rioja Alavesa. To complete you tour, you’ll descend upon the two cosmopolitan jewels of the Basque Country: Bilbao and San Sebastian. Together, these two cities will offer you the chance to both sample some of the word’s finest contemporary arts museums and eat your way through endless pintxo bars.
Enjoy- Bon appétit- Buen Provecho- On egin!

The Basque language, like its people, is fiercely independent and refuses to fit in to such misguided preconceptions. Basque, is a language isolate, with no demonstrable genealogical relationship with other languages.
